Using custom fields in articles (posts)
Adding data to custom fields
After you have attached a custom fields group to the Add-Edit Article Form , there is a possibility of adding custom fields into articles.
Displaying data from custom fields in articles
Data which have been added to custom fields will be displayed within articles.
For a better explanation of how custom fields are displayed within articles, we have to explain the basics of layout of article list page and article details page. For displaying of article list pages and article details pages, the EasyDNNnews module uses HTML templates and tokens. HTML templates enable full control over the article details and article list layout. The module comes with a lot of predefined HTML templates which can be selected in the module settings (EasyDNNnews > Settings > Template and Theme selection), but you can also create your own templates or modify the predefined templates.
All predefined article details page templates already have a shared token which will display the whole custom fields group. Every custom field also has its own token (you can see it in Dashboard > Custom fields > Manage Custom Fields Groups). More about custom fields tokens find out in this article.
As we already mentioned, layout of the article list page and article details page is set by HTML templates. If none of the existing HTML templates matches your needs, it is possible to create a new template or edit the predefined templates. From version 7.5 EasyDNNnews comes with the template editor so it is possible to edit templates directly from the module.
The most common question related to article layout is can we cut of displaying of an author, rating, social sharing buttons or similar? Yes, it is possible. You just need to edit HTML template which you use and delete the tokens that display element you won't use.
