How to create a Facebook application

The first step in being able to start using the Facebook application on your Forum is to Register as a developer on https://developers.facebook.com. Once you have your Facebook developer account, Login and navigate  to: https://developers.facebook.com/apps. Next, click on the “Add a New App” button in the upper-right corner of the page. This will open a popup dialog as shown below.

In the popup dialog fill in the required application name and contact email fields and click “Create App ID”.

Once the application has been created, open it, click on the “Settings” option in the sidebar menu and select the “Basic” option. This will show your application's basic settings, some of which will need to be edited for the application to work correctly.

The next step is to click on the “Add Platform” button at the bottom of the screen and select the “Website” platform from the options provided, as shown on the image below.

This will add a small configuration window under the main settings with a field labeled “Site URL” where you should enter your website's URL.

Next, fill in the details for your web domains under the “App Domains” option in the main window of the basic settings.

Once that is done, in the “Category” dropdown menu select “Apps for Pages” and finally click on “Save Changes”.

The next step is to select “App Review” from the sidebar menu and turn on the option “Make Simple Forum public?”. This will enable your app to become live and available to everyone.

Your Facebook application is now ready for use in the EasyDNNsimpleForum module. The next step is to enter your Facebook “App ID” and “App Secret” in the EasyDNNsimpleForum module's settings. You can get to these by selecting the “Dashboard” option from the sidebar menu. Once there, copy the “App ID” and “App Secret” values. For the "App Secret" you should click on the "Show" button on the right side of the field and reenter your credentials for the actual value to become visible.

Open the settings in the EasyDNNsimpleForum module and paste your “App ID” and “App Secret” values, wait for the process to complete and click “Save And Close” .

Your Facebook application and EasyDNNsimpleForum module are now connected. All comments added through the EasyDNNsimpleForum module will be visible and you will be able to moderate them in your Facebook application. For this to work properly your website with EasyDNNsimpleForum module must be online.
